The role of a Senior Design Engineer
As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll deliver network design solutions for our customer-initiated works, asset replacement programmes, and capital projects. You’ll ensure our designs meet technical and regulatory standards while providing innovative and economical engineering solutions.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and customers to produce accurate designs, cost estimates, and project documentation. You’ll also support the team by mentoring colleagues, ensuring design quality and enhancing engineering standards and practices.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and quote new or modified 11kV and LV network extensions and asset replacement projects.
- Conduct surveys, develop overhead line designs, and undertake profiling using industry-standard tools like CATAN, Coldnet, or Neara.
- Prepare work packages, material lists and cost schedules for approved projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to obtain consent and approvals while managing other project documentation.
About you
- You have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a National Certificate at Level 4 or 5 in an appropriate electrical trade (e.g., Line Mechanic or Glove & Barrier).
- 7–10 years’ experience in distribution network design or asset management.
- Proficient with tools like GIS, CAD, CATAN, and Neara.
- A strong understanding of engineering standards, regulations, and line design principles (AS/NZS 7000).
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships and rapport with stakeholders.
- A passion for driving innovation and delivering high-quality network solutions.
