The role of a Faultperson
As an experienced Faultperson, you will be responsible for delivering prompt and effective fault responses to Waipā Networks consumers, ensuring uninterrupted service 24/7, 365 days a year. Your role will be crucial in swiftly identifying, responding to, and resolving faults on the electricity network, and ensuring rapid restoration of power to our customers. You will investigate outages, perform repairs, and execute switching operations to isolate faults and restore power supply. Additionally, you will conduct routine patrols, identify potential issues, and provide valuable fault data to support network performance analysis and improvement initiatives. Your main goal will be to minimise the duration and impact of power outages, ensuring a reliable and safe electrical supply.
Key responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to network and customer fault requests, managing switching and repairs on 33kV, 11kV and 400V overhead, underground, and ground-mounted equipment, including substations.
- Perform voltage testing and locate cable faults, ensuring the safe and effective restoration of power
- Carry out remedial tree cutting and manage safety disconnections and reconnections for electricians and customers
- Replace and repair network assets as necessary, contributing to the efficient operation of the network
- Complete all required documentation, including WSPs and as-built drawings, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping
- Maintain and care for equipment, cleaning and maintaining plant vehicles as required
- Assist with planned work and network construction alongside other field crews
- Participate in after-hours fault management, being responsible for 1st or 2nd call faults in specific network areas, with support from 2nd call employees and after-hours Duty Supervisors or Control Room Operators.
About you
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Line Mechanic or Electrician in the electrical distribution sector
- Current EWRB practicing licence – line mechanic or electrician classification
- NZC in Fault Response & Switching Level 4 preferred, or willing to gain this additional qualification on the job
- Reside in or be willing to relocate to the Waipā region to meet on call roster requirements
- Availability to participate in the call roster for fault response
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- A strong commitment to safety and compliance with industry regulations.
